What Benefits Will the New Insurance Plans Include?

There will be many options available in 2014. Unfortunately the government yet to release the specific plan benefits, but we have some general details. The "Exchange" or "Marketplace" insurance plans will have four benefit levels to choose from:
- Platinum Plan: Benefits must average 90% coverage. These plans are expected to be very expensive and industry insiders tell us that there are many companies that are not planning on offering this plan option.
- Gold Plan: Benefits must average 80% coverage.
- Silver Plan: Benefits must average 70% coverage. For those who qualify for a subsidy, they must choose a plan with the Silver benefit level (per the current rules, which are subject to change).
- Bronze Plan: Benefits must average 60% coverage.
- Catastrophic Plan: Available Only on an individual basis for those under the age of 30.

Additionally, there will be plans offered "ouside" of the exchange that will have benefits that are different from the plan types listed above. The benefit structure for those plans will be slightly different but still include the minimum essential health benefits required by the government.

All insurance plans offered on the government marketplaces must include maternity coverage; newborn care; mental health coverage; substance abuse disorder services; pediatric services (including oral and vision care); ambulatory patient services; emergency services; hospitalization; laboratory services; prescription drugs; rehabilitative and habilitative services and devices; preventive and wellness services & chronic disease management. Additionally, all plans must be fully insured and have no annual or lifetime limits on essential health benefits.

While we do not have details on the plans yet, we know that not all of the insurance companies will be offering plans on the government marketplace site due to the expected high loss ratios and costs. Therefore, it is important to work with a company (like Insurance Now) who will be able to offer plans that are included in the government site as well as those outside of that site. Some plans available outside of the marketplace are expected to be more affordable for those that do not utilize a government subsidy due to the ability to offer different benefit structures.

There are some options available now that will allow you to lock in the 2013 plans and rates through the first year of Health Care Reform in 2014. To find out about those plans, contact us at 770-396-9517 or toll-free outside Atlanta, GA at 1-877-711-8376, or you may email us at holly@insurance-now.com or chris@insurance-now.com.

The agents at Insurance Now have over 17 years of experience and will be able to determine which plan(s) is your best option and if a subsidy is available, what plans you can choose from in order to best utilize that subsidy. We never charge for our services, so the cost is the same whether you try to "go it alone" on the government's website or work with us. We will not abandon you after "the sale" but will continue to be available to you to help with any questions or problems throughout the life of your policy. We also offer dental, disability and life insurance if needed.

We look forward to working with you,
Holly, Chris and Susan
