What is the PPACA and When Does it Begin?
The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) was signed into law By President Obama on March 23, 2010. The act was primarily focused on decreasing the cost of receiving health care in the United States and reducing the number of uninsured individuals in the United States.The entire law encompasses over 1100 pages and can be viewed by clicking here. Some of the key insurance provisions of this law have already gone into effect and include:

- Extended coverage to young adults up to age 26 on their parents health insurance plan.
- No pre-existing waiting periods on children's health insurance policies.Beginning January 1, 2014, the law requires that all citizens of the United States have a health insurance policy in effect. Those without insurance coverage will be required to pay a penalty. Coverage will no longer depend on health conditions and will be guaranteed issue with no pre-existing waiting period for medical conditions. Unfortunately, insurance premiums will increase (drastically in some cases) for the new insurance plans. However, there are some options available to keep your premiums at the 2013 rates for the next year. Call us at 770-396-9517 as soon as possible to lock in that option.
